Rare Earths is an original science fiction series by Sven von Vittorelli, with Shackleton Ridge being the first novel. The story sets off a few decades from now, in a world ravaged by climate change and biosphere collapse. When Raymond Houston, CEO of the world’s most powerful management consulting firm, finally develops a conscience, events are being set in motion that will shape the lives of generations.
The book introduces three point-of-view characters in two different eras of the near- and distant future. Together, they have to deal with the terrible consequences of Houston’s guilt-driven crusade, while making discoveries that will define humanity’s future.

The series is a hard-SciFi, interplanetary adventure that takes the reader on a wild journey across a shattered world, and even further, towards humanity’s sole outpost on Lunar. It includes dystopian survival drama and political thriller elements, strongly focusing on characters, family, and friendship. The books explore several themes, such as early space colonization, environmental crises, resource scarcity, artificial intelligence, the spread of misinformation, as well as the power of both indigenous knowledge and corporate greed.
